Boosting Territory Tourism

NT Government

Territory tourism has a new direction set with the revised NT Tourism Industry Strategy 2030 released today.

Developed in collaboration with industry stakeholders, as a 3 yearly review of the original Strategy. The revised update outlines new demand targets, key themes and additional supply-side targets.

Three priorities have been set in the new strategy, those being, resolving aviation access, reducing seasonality and commitment to sustainable practices.

In a step towards our new tourism goals, 48 Territory businesses have shared almost $3 million in VEEP grants awards. These successful applicants are contributing over $10 million of their own funds coming to a total of $13 million invested in new product development and enhancement.

The Northern Territory's Visitor Enhancement Experience Program (VEEP) is a highly competitive grants initiative where tourism and hospitality businesses can apply for grants of up to $100,000, with a matching cash co-contribution.

Round 7 recipients now have their economic boost and can enhance product offerings for visitors to the top end.

The grants will underscore an array of upgrades to tourism infrastructure, accessibility, safety, education, and developing new visitor experiences.

The Territory tourism industry accounted for upwards of $3 billion in visitor expenditure in 2022. Creating a more diverse, fun and accessible Territory for visitors through VEEP contributes greatly to the targets set in the NT's Tourism Industry Strategy 2030.

Quote attributable to Minister for Tourism, Nicole Manison:

"Tourism and the Territory go hand in hand, the sector is vital to our local business owners, economy and a significant contributor right across our regions.

"It is important we set the right direction for Tourism in the NT, these efforts unite the public and private sectors as we focus on what needs to be done to build on our already thriving tourism industry.

"We will always continue to invest in our local Territory businesses with $3 million injected today, I look forward to seeing the amazing upgrades the recipients undertake
