Boundary reform proposal for Marino and Glengowrie

At a council meeting on Tuesday 27 August 2019, City of Holdfast Bay's Elected Members will consider a motion regarding the possible realignment of boundaries for Marino and Glengowrie.

The motion, submitted by Holdfast Bay Mayor Amanda Wilson, seeks the go-ahead for council to investigate whether there is community support for the realignment of the boundaries and, if so, to provide support to groups who may wish to bring a community-led application.

"Marino and Glengowrie residents have regularly approached myself and other Elected Members to outline their interest in being aligned with the City of Holdfast Bay," said Amanda Wilson, City of Holdfast Bay Mayor.

"It has been a discussion point for a long time, but new legislation enables communities themselves to propose boundary changes that better support their community.

"Marino and Glengowrie are geographically aligned and connected to Holdfast Bay, and there is strong social, economic and environmental connectivity with us.

"Residents from these communities work, study, shop and play in the City of Holdfast Bay. They use our infrastructure and our services such as libraries and community centres, and I believe it's worth investigating whether the wider community would support a boundary change."

City of Holdfast Bay believes it provides services to its community as economically as possible and these communities would benefit from a realignment.

If the motion is carried on 27 August, council will work with local groups to facilitate community forums in late September for local residents.

Details of these forums will be confirmed soon, and more information and updates will be available on yourviewholdfast.com/clbr
