Boy Charged After Stabbing In Clayton

Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a teenage boy following a stabbing in Clayton this morning.

Police were called to a shopping centre on Blackburn Road to reports a woman had been stabbed about 7.50am.

It's alleged the woman was inside the centre on her way to work when she was stabbed by the unknown male.

A passerby assisted the victim and contacted Triple Zero (000).

The 25-year-old Mount Waverly woman was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The male fled the area but was arrested a short time later at medical centre in Clayton.

The 16-year-old boy from the Stonnington area has since been charged with intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury, assault with weapon, possess controlled weapon, theft and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

He was remanded to appear at a children's court at a later date.
