Boy charged over attempted armed robbery, Helensvale

Police have charged a 15-year-old boy after a car was allegedly attempted to be stolen at knifepoint in Helensvale last night.

Around 6.30pm a 40-year-old man parked his 2020 X6 BMW near an ATM at a shopping centre at Millaroo Drive and went to lodge some cash. When he returned to his vehicle a group of youths dispersed away from his car except for one boy who allegedly demanded the car keys.

The man refused at which time it will be alleged the boy produced a knife. The man ran from the scene but fell with members of the public coming to his aid.

The boy fled and was located by police a short time later at a nearby bus stop.

The man sustained shoulder and minor hand injuries from his fall and was transported to hospital for treatment.

A 15-year-old boy from Edens Landing has been charged with attempted armed robbery.

Investigations are ongoing.
