Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce has backed the new leader of the National Party, Senator Matthew Canavan.
Mr Boyce said Senator Canavan has the intestinal fortitude and intelligence to stand up for regional Australians and to ensure the voices of rural and regional communities are heard loud and clear in Canberra.
"Matt understands the challenges facing regional Australia. From the rising cost of living to the importance of strong industries like agriculture, mining and manufacturing," Mr Boyce said.
"He is a champion of the facts and consistent in his point of view. Matt knows that our regions are the engine room of the Australian economy and that families, farmers, small businesses and workers in the bush deserve a strong voice at the national level.
"Matt has consistently stood up for regional jobs, affordable baseload power generation and practical policies that support economic growth."
Mr Boyce said the National Party remained firmly committed to delivering practical outcomes for regional communities and ensuring the interests of rural and regional Australians are front and centre.
"The Nationals have always been the party that stands up for the bush, and that will continue under Matt's leadership," he said.
"I would also like to congratulate the new Deputy Leader Darren Chester and re-elected Leader of the Nationals in the Senate, Senator Bridget McKenzie.
"I look forward to working with the leadership team to continue delivering for the electorate of Flynn and ensuring our region remains a priority."
