Brighton Couple Finds $20M Powerball Ticket on Fridge

A Brighton couple has thawed out a life-changing delight after discovering their Powerball ticket worth $20 million had been sitting in plain sight, right on their fridge door.

The Victorian grandparents held one of the four division one winning entries in Powerball draw 1529, drawn Thursday 4 September 2025. They can look forward to a whopping $20 million.

As the winning entry wasn't registered to The Lott Members Club, we had no way of contacting the winning couple and instead had to wait for them to check their ticket and come forward.

When we spoke to the winning duo, they were still struggling to wrap their heads around the enormity of their win.

"That's insane! I'm in shock!" the winning wife said.

"This is unbelievable. We had no idea, and this whole time the ticket was just sitting on our fridge.

"We've both been really busy, so we just forgot to check it.

"Oh wow. It was just a QuickPick, but I see my lucky number is here, and some family birthdays and anniversaries. It was meant to be!"

With a multi-million dollar windfall heading their way, the happy grandparents shared they would take care of their nearest and dearest and buy a home.

"We've worked really hard all our lives. We'll look after our children and grandchildren, and we'll be able to buy a little house," she revealed.

"We have bought tickets on and off for years. I can't believe it.

"Heck! I don't know if I should keep working or retire.

"I've had a radical change of plans for the day, that's for sure.

"It will take a long time for this to sink in."

The winning entry was purchased from East Brighton Newsagency, 613 Hampton Street, Brighton.

East Brighton Newsagency owner Sajjad Sadeghi Goorbandi said he was over the moon to sell a division one winning ticket.

"I can't believe it! This is the best news!" he cheered.

"This is actually the first division one winning ticket we've sold since I took over ownership two years ago.

"I'm so happy. I'm going to call my colleagues now and tell them the great news.

"Congratulations to the winner! Thank you for supporting us!"
