Murrindindi Shire Council was proud to host the 2025 Volunteer Expo at the Alexandra Football and Netball Club on Saturday 5 July, celebrating the energy and commitment of our local volunteer groups and the spirit of giving back.

The event brought together 22 local groups and around 100 community members for an afternoon of connection, inspiration and information sharing. Inspired by the National Volunteer Week theme of "Bringing Communities Together" and delivered as part of Council's Community Capacity Building Program, the Expo offered a one-stop opportunity for residents to explore local causes and find their place in community life.

Groups from a wide range of sectors took part, including Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, Visitor Information Centres, CFA, SES, Red Cross, Carers Support, and other dedicated causes, offering something for every age and interest.

A panel of local volunteers shared their insights and experiences, while guest speaker Lillie Giang from Feed One Feed All inspired attendees with her journey creating a purpose-driven community initiative. Many visitors reported leaving with new ideas and renewed motivation, and several groups noted an increase in expression of interest from prospective volunteers.

Council thanks all stallholders, volunteers and community members who gave up their Saturday to attend and contribute. Their efforts, especially from those juggling busy lives, made the day a genuine success.

This event also offered refreshments and a relaxed space for conversation, highlighting the role volunteering plays not just in supporting services, but in building friendships and resilience across the Shire. It was delivered with funding support from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) Community Development Fund.

"Murrindindi Shire has so many dedicated people, coming together to represent our community," said Council's Community Wellbeing Portfolio Councillor Jodi Adams. "The Volunteer Expo not only connected individuals with meaningful causes but also reminded us how vital volunteering is to the wellbeing of our Shire."

"We're proud to support our local groups through this event and look forward to seeing the positive effects across the community. If anyone is looking to insert a social, enjoyable and meaningful experience into their daily lives, consider the possibilities of volunteering in your own backyard."

"There are so many opportunities for all skills, interests and backgrounds to volunteer and contribute to community life. Being part of volunteer organisations provides a great opportunity to connect with like-minded people."
