A Brisbane man, 47, has been extradited to the United Kingdom to face charges of historic child sex offences.
The AFP handed the man over to officers from the Metropolitan Police Service's National Extradition Unit at Sydney International Airport on Monday, 11 July 2022, before they boarded an international flight.
The wanted man was arrested by the AFP's Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (FAST) at his Moorooka home on 16 February 2022 in response to an extradition request from the United Kingdom on behalf of Greater Manchester Police. He remained in custody from the date of his arrest until his surrender to the United Kingdom.
The AFP and UK authorities worked closely with the Australian Attorney‑General's Department throughout the extradition process.
AFP Superintendent Transnational Operations Jared Taggart, said the arrest showed the strong partnership between Australian and UK law enforcement to bring offenders to justice.
"These operations demonstrate the cooperation and international reach of law enforcement, and should serve as a reminder to anyone who allegedly commits offences against children, you are not untouchable and police will not stop looking for you," he said.
AFP's FAST aims to make it easier for police across multiple jurisdictions to jointly investigate criminals who have fled the law, share operational intelligence, and strengthen cooperation to conduct complex and cross-border investigations.
