Brisbane Wall to Wall baton presentation

Commissioner Ian Stewart yesterday joined Wall to Wall co-founder Brian Rix, Police Union leader Ian Leavers, Wall to Wall riders and community members for the Brisbane ceremony baton presentation at the Queensland Police Service Memorial in the botanical gardens.

Each year, batons are transported by motorcycle riders to capital cities of each state.

Within those capital cities, ceremonies then take place with the police commissioner of each state in an effort to contribute to the national police legacy.

Within these ceremonies, batons are presented to the police commissioners of each state before continuing on their journey, ahead of the official Wall to Wall ride.

The batons represent a memorial, as these ceremonies incorporate inserting the names of officers who have passed away within the last year, into the unique hollow centre of each baton.

Individually and collectively, the batons serve as important symbols for police; both past and present, in supporting police legacy.

Riders from the ceremony are now on their way to the Northern Territory for a presentation with the Northern Territory Police Commissioner in Darwin.

After all ceremonies are conducted in remaining states Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria, each baton will be carried by a representative from each state's police service on the official Wall to Wall: Ride for Remembrance, later in the year.
