Hume City Council and its project partners have officially commenced the Broadmeadows Precinct Roadmap, a key step in the area's transformation.

The launch was marked with a Welcome to Country by Wurundjeri Elder Perry Wandin, followed by a community celebration at Banksia Gardens Community Services on Wednesday 6 August.

It comes following major funding from the Australian Government of more than $3.3 million through the national urban Precincts and Partnerships Program (uPPP).

The urban Precincts and Partnerships Program supports investment in the transformation of urban areas and aims to strengthen local economies by bringing together levels of government, businesses, and local communities.

The Precinct Roadmap will help guide this important work, ensuring there's a focus on investing in priority needs for Broadmeadows.

The Roadmap launch event, attended by Mayor Cr Jarrod Bell, Member for Calwell Basem Abdo, and Hume City Councillors is the start of an exciting journey to transform Broadmeadows into a thriving urban hub for Melbourne's north.

Known as the Broadmeadows Revitalisation Project, and driven by Hume City Council on behalf of the Broadmeadows Revitalisation Board with Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, it also aims to address the long-term challenges faced by residents in the area.

This includes a focus on:

  • making it easier for people to get a good education

  • helping local businesses grow

  • creating more housing

  • providing more jobs for locals

This work has been made possible thanks to the strong partnership which includes Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung, Kangan Institute, Vicinity Group, Victoria University, Banksia Gardens Community Services, DPV Health, Brite, Northern Legal Community Health, Spectrum, and the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning.

This joint effort will ensure the Revitalisation Plan meets the needs of the community and while helping to shape a better future for Broadmeadows.
