Judged by the on-field umpires, Brown and Penna finished on seven votes apiece.
Brown's impact with both bat and ball was pivotal for the Sydney Sixers. The right-arm quick took seven wickets throughout the campaign, including two three-wicket hauls, and played valuable middle-order cameos with a strike rate of 162.22, scoring 73 runs with an average of 36.50 in four matches. She was also named as Player of the Match in the opening fixture against the Hobart Hurricanes.
Penna, meanwhile, dominated with the bat for the Adelaide Strikers, finishing as the tournament's leading run-scorer scoring 229 runs, dismissed only once in four matches of the tournament. Her standout performance came against the Sydney Thunder, where she struck the only century of the tournament, complemented by unbeaten scores of 55 and 48 in other matches.
The top performers were closely followed by Nicola Carey (Hobart Hurricanes) with six votes, and Hayley Silver-Holmes (Hobart Hurricanes) with five.
The final of the T20 Spring Challenge will be played today, with defending champions the Hobart Hurricanes set to face the Brisbane Heat in a repeat of last year's decider.
The Hurricanes will be aiming to go back-to-back, while the Heat will be looking to turn the tables today at Cricket Central in Sydney with the first ball scheduled at 2:00 pm AEDT.
