Brunswick West armed robbery

Fawkner Embona Taskforce investigators are appealing for information following an armed robbery and assault in Brunswick West on Tuesday (25 June).

Police have been told a man armed with a screwdriver entered a milk bar on Moreland Road about 7.55pm and walked behind the counter.

He armed himself with a bat and demanded cash from the male attendant, who ran from the store.

The offender took the register, which contained a small amount of cash, before fleeing on foot.

The victim, a 49-year-old Coburg North man, was not injured during the incident.

It is understood the offender then approached a car which was stopped at the intersection of Moreland Road and Galtes Crescent and attempted to open the door.

After being unsuccessful, the man reached through the open window and stole the driver's handbag.

He was chased by the victim, who demanded her belongings back.

The offender then punched her to the mouth and took off in a white 4WD, believed to have partial registration JM_ _94.

The victim, a 26-year-old Essendon woman, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The offender is perceived as African in appearance and was wearing a hoodie and a handkerchief, which was covering his face.

Police have released a partial image and CCTV footage of a man who they believe can assist with their enquiries.
