Bruny Island Has Spoken, We Have Acted

Tasmanian Government

Weekday afternoon ferry services to and from Bruny Island have been restored following dialogue between the community, SeaLink and the Transport Commissioner.

The changes follow a roundtable on May 26 organised by the Minister for Transport, Eric Abetz, to discuss concerns regarding the impact of the changes on residents, visitors and businesses.

Minister for Transport, Eric Abetz, backed in the new services and thanked the community for making their voices heard.

"The community told us that the congestion caused by the earlier changes was not sustainable, and as a regular of Bruny Island, I agree.

"I'm pleased that the Transport Commissioner has considered both travel data and lived experiences and has brought back these vital services.

"As the Member for Franklin, I understand full-well the importance of a well-functioning ferry service for liveability and tourism on Bruny Island, and I'm pleased to have made those representations.

"Bruny Islanders deserves to hold their head high: the island is now a must-go place for visitors. Rob Pennicott deserves a special mention for helping to place it on the map," Minister Abetz said.

The new timetable will come into effect on June 3 and run through to September 28.

During this period, SeaLink and the Transport Commissioner will continue to monitor passenger numbers and engage with the community.
