In a bid to protect the Shoalhaven's unique environment, Council officers are carrying out a targeted inspection blitz of local construction sites during March 2026 under the 'Get the Site Right' campaign.
The 'Get the Site Right' campaign aims to reduce pollution by emphasising the need to secure building materials and educate site managers to implement best-practice erosion and sediment controls.
Mayor Patricia White said the 'Get the Site Right' campaign was in its tenth year and part of Council's ongoing commitment to protect the environment.
"We want to keep the Shoalhaven beautiful so it's critical that developers and builders take responsibility for managing their sites effectively to prevent pollution," Cr White said.
"As development continues across the region, it's more important than ever that erosion and sediment controls are taken seriously," she said.
"Protecting our waterways and natural areas starts with good practice on construction sites, and this month-long campaign is a vital reminder of the role everyone plays in reducing pollution."
The Shoalhaven performs above the state average compliance rate of 46 per cent, consistently reaching a compliance rate in the sixties.
The 'Get the Site Right' campaign is a joint initiative that involves councils from across NSW, including Shoalhaven City Council.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Get the Site Right initiative which was established in 2016 by the Parramatta River Catchment Group (PRCG) with support from the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA).
Penalty notices (fines) may be issued by Council. To report pollution incidents, including poor sediment control, contact Council or the EPA's 24/7 Environment Line on 131 555.
