On 21 January, the conference "Building an inclusive Europe: united against Antisemitism" was held at the premises of the Council of Europe. The event was organised by the University of Strasbourg, with the support of the Consulate General of the United States of America and the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General on Antisemitism, Anti-Muslim Hatred and All Forms of Religious Intolerance (SRSG).
Addressed to students and equality correspondents of the University of Strasbourg, the conference focused on the alarming phenomenon of online antisemitism, particularly on social media, and highlighted the role of academic research and university initiatives in tackling new forms of antisemitism.
The conference was opened by the President of the University of Strasbourg, Professor Frédérique Berrod, alongside the Consul General of the United States and Deputy Permanent Observer to the Council of Europe, Ms Yvonne Gonzales, and included a keynote address by Marvin Krislov, Fulbright Scholar and President of Pace University, New York. It was followed by a round-table discussion presenting the work of the European Commission against racism and intolerance (ECRI), the Délégation interministérielle à la lutte contre le racisme, l'antisémitisme et la haine anti-LGBT+ (DILCRAH) and the Department of Hebrew and Jewish Studies of the University of Strasbourg, and concluded by SRSG, Ms Irene Kitsou-Milonas.
