Burleigh Heads Library Closure Delayed

The closure of the Burleigh Heads Library has been delayed by several weeks to ensure continuity of service for the local community while Burleigh Waters Library is refurbished.

Originally scheduled to close today, Burleigh Heads Library will now continue operating until the upgrade to the nearby Burleigh Waters site is completed in September.

Acting Mayor Mark Hammel said the decision reflects Council's commitment to maintaining access to important community services during the refurbishment period.

"Libraries are vital community hubs and we understand how important they are to our residents.

"By keeping Burleigh Heads Library open for a little longer, we can ensure the community continues to have convenient access to library services while we transition into the refurbishment period at Burleigh Waters."

The refurbishment of Burleigh Waters Library will deliver improved facilities, enhanced services and greater capacity to meet the needs of the growing community.

Division 13 Councillor Josh Martin welcomed the extension of services at Burleigh Heads.

"Residents told me that maintaining access to library services during the refurbishment of Burleigh Waters Library was important, and I advocated for that message to be heard," Cr Martin said.

"I'm pleased that we have been able to retain a temporary library presence at Burleigh Heads through the establishment of a 'Burleigh Heads Library Lounge', while also providing a Mobile Library service, family programs and community events at Burleigh Waters whilst the refurbishment takes place."

"This approach ensures our community remains connected to their library services while we invest in an upgraded Burleigh Waters Library that will deliver improved facilities, expanded services and longer opening hours for local residents."

Division 12 Councillor Nick Marshall said the temporary extension would help provide continuity for library users while the City delivered the upgrade.

"We know many local residents rely on library services for learning, connection and access to information.

"Keeping Burleigh Heads Library open a little longer will help support our community during this transition and ensure there are a range of convenient options available while the refurbishment is completed."

The Burleigh Waters Library refurbishment is expected to provide an enhanced customer experience, improved accessibility and expanded opportunities for community learning and connection through additional family engagement programming, Saturday opening hours and customer service centre services.
