Crews were called to the affected farm property at 12.48pm to find a grass fire spreading.

18 CFA vehicles, including 70 firefighters and a helicopter, were called to the incident to help contain the fire, which spread to around 200 hectares in size.

District 20 Commander Mick Lavery said the fire was contained before it could cause any structural damage.

"It originated from a burn off from several days ago; the wind has picked it up again," Mr Lavery said.

"The fire has run a fair way, but has been contained to just one property.

"We've experienced a strong northerly wind that has been blowing all day and will continue tonight."

The incident was brought under control at 2.32pm as crews turned their attention to blacking out over the next several hours.

Commander Lavery said it's important for property owners to consistently monitor their burn offs even after they have been stopped.

"Check your burn offs even after you've put them out," he said.

"We've had a few burn offs reignite in the area recently, so it's important people remain vigilant and remember to register them as well."

Keep your burn-off safe and legal:

· Check fire restrictions with your local council and register your burn on 1800 668 511

· Check and monitor weather conditions - particularly wind

· To avoid unnecessary calls to emergency services, notify your neighbours beforehand

· Leave a three-metre fire break, free from flammable materials around the burn

· Have sufficient equipment and water to stop the fire spreading

· Never leave a burn-off unattended - stay for its entire duration

· If your burn-off gets out of control, call '000' immediately

· Make sure that the fire is completely extinguished before leaving; if it's cool to touch, it's safe to leave.
