Burwood Police Nab Man, Seize Military-Style Rifle

Burwood Police have charged a man after multiple firearms – including a military style rifle – were seized following a search warrant in Sydney's southwest.

On Tuesday 23 September 2025, investigators from Burwood Police Area Command commenced an investigation following reports unlicensed firearms were being stored at a home in Campsie.

Following enquiries, a 47-year-old man was arrested on Seventh Avenue, Campsie, before a search warrant was executed at a unit on the same street.

Police located an Austeyr assault rifle, a pistol, ammunition, and a hunting knife.

He was taken to Burwood Police Station and charged with:

- Possess unauthorised pistol

- Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority

- Not keep firearm safely – pistol

- Possess or use military-style weapon without permit

He was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court yesterday (Wednesday 24 September 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Wednesday 8 October 2025.
