Bus crash near Lithgow, NSW

Police believe children and adults involved in a bus crash near Lithgow this afternoon have escaped with minor injuries, NSW Police say.

It was about 4pm today, that two buses were involved in a rear-end collision at the intersection of State Mine Gully Road and Old Bells Line of Road at Newnes, 10km north of Lithgow.

There were 68 people on the buses – 50 of them children – and a major emergency response has been activated involving officers from Lithgow general duties and Chifley Highway Patrol, NSW Ambulance Paramedics, Fire & Rescue NSW, and volunteers from Lithgow VRA.

A triage area has been established by NSW Ambulance Paramedics. At this time, police have been told the worst injuries appear to be related to bruising; however, three children and one woman have been already been taken to Lithgow Hospital for further assessment.

The remaining children are being taken to Lithgow Hospital to be checked as a precaution.

It’s believed those involved were from a school in St Marys on a school holiday excursion.

Police from the Chifley Crash Investigation Unit are en route to the scene to examine the circumstances around the collision.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
