Local businesses are invited to a practical workshop in Omeo next month to help them prepare for the region's growing mountain bike tourism market.
East Gippsland Shire Council and the Omeo Regional Business and Tourism Association are partnering to host the Business Ready Workshop, delivered by Blue Sky Trails, which will give business owners insight into the mountain bike visitor market and practical tools to adapt existing services or develop new opportunities.
The fast-paced, interactive session will give business owners insight into the mountain bike visitor market and share practical tools and case studies to help them adapt to existing services or develop new opportunities linked to MTB tourism.
Mayor Jodie Ashworth said the workshop would help local businesses make the most of the opportunities created by Omeo's newly completed mountain bike park.
"This project has been driven by locals from day one, and their belief in what it could mean for the region has never wavered," Cr Ashworth said.
"Having a year-round drawcard like this is a welcome boost for the region's economy. More visitors staying longer means more spending at local businesses and a stronger future for the High Country."
After more than a decade of planning and development, Omeo's mountain bike park is already establishing itself as a major tourism and recreation destination. The 114 km trail network caters to all riders of all abilities, from family-friendly trails to challenging double-black descents, with loops through Sam Hill State Forest and Mt Mesley and full amenities at Livingstone Park.
The workshop will provide practical advice on how businesses can better understand and cater for mountain bike visitors, helping grow overnight stays and local spending.
