Council is delivering a lot right now, from major drainage and road works to community grants and places to enjoy as the weather warms up.

Mayor Sarah Ndiaye thanked residents for their patience with traffic changes and detours around the Shire.

"There is a lot happening, and that's because there is a lot to do. We're working hard to get the big projects finished before the busy Christmas period, and I appreciate everyone's patience while we do," said Byron Shire Council Mayor Sarah Ndiaye.

Getting the roads right

"The Byron Bay Drainage Project is in full swing. The Byron and Fletcher Street intersection is closed until the end of November while we complete this major upgrade, and we're on track to finish before the summer holidays.

"A section of The Pocket Road is closed for two months while our engineers rebuild a failed culvert. We're also doing heavy patching while traffic is lighter.

"Our crews are putting the final touches on Mullumbimby Road, with resealing scheduled for November and December.

"Our 2022 flood repair program also continues at full steam, with works underway on Upper Wilsons Creek Road and significant causeway repairs and roadworks on Main Arm Road," said Mayor Ndiaye.

Investing in community

"In Brunswick Heads, the Stan Thompson Oval amenities block and clubhouse upgrade is almost complete, with an accessible ramp being added shortly. A great win for local sports clubs for upcoming seasons.

"The Events and Festivals Sponsorship Fund, Local Heritage Grant Program and Regenerative Agriculture Small Grants Program are all open now. Our Creative Public Spaces Grants have gone to three exciting projects, and more than $57,000 was shared by 18 projects through the Community Initiatives Program this year.

"We've also just hosted a co-design walkshop as part of Transport for NSW's Safer Cities: Her Way program. We'll review what we heard, hold a workshop, and develop solutions with women to make Byron Bay safer," she said.

Time to get out and enjoy it

"With the weather warming up, it's a great time to enjoy our open spaces, parks, skateparks and pools. Don't forget to visit the transformed Sandhills Wetlands in Byron Bay.

"Or head inside to our libraries and the Lone Goat Gallery for some inspiration," the Mayor said.
