- Caboolture-Bribie Island Road has received a major boost, improving one of the corridors busiest stretches between Old Toorbul Point Road and Saint Road.
- The Volz Road-Browns Road intersection is also now signalised, making it safer and easier for locals to access the road.
- Delivered in partnership between the Albanese and Crisafulli Governments, the upgrades will ease congestion and smooth traffic flow keeping up with the growing area.
- This work is another strong step toward building the safer, more efficient road network Queenslanders deserve.
A major infrastructure milestone has been reached for the Caboolture, Ningi and Bribie communities with the duplication of Caboolture-Bribie Island Road between Old Toorbul Point Road and Saint Road now complete, a month ahead of schedule.
The section has been upgraded from a two to four-lane road with a centre median to separate vehicles travelling in opposite directions, reducing the potential for crashes.
These upgrades will significantly improve safety and traffic flow and increase capacity along one of the region's key connections.
The project also included upgrades to the intersection at Saint Road and McGrath Road and new U-turn facilities at Old Toorbul Point Road and Volz Road.
Additionally, new traffic lights have been installed at the Volz Road and Browns Road intersection and wider shoulders and newly marked bike lanes will improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
The project was delivered with $28.9 million from the Australian Government and $19.3 million from the Queensland Government.
Further west, design is progressing on the Caboolture–Bribie Island Road, Hickey Road to King Johns Creek project. Supported by commitments from both levels of government, this project will include signalising the Hickey Road intersection and preparing for the future duplication of Caboolture–Bribie Island Road from west of Hickey Road to west of King Johns Creek.
These projects build on other major joint Australian and State Government investments in the region, including the completed Bruce Highway Upgrade – Caboolture-Bribie Island Road to Steve Irwin Way (Exit 163).
Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said the completion of the project was a significant milestone for locals and the region.
"In 2022 the Albanese Government committed funding for upgrades to Caboolture to Bribie Island Road and it's terrific to see these works completed and benefitting the people who live here," Minister King said.
"We're committed to working with the Queensland Government to make roads safer and more efficient for local communities here in Caboolture and surrounds, and to make Bribie Island easier to get to for residents and tourists alike."
Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the completion of works was another positive step forward in delivering the safer road network Queenslanders deserve.
"We are getting on with the job of delivering practical road upgrades that we said we would, and we are pleased to work with the Australian Government to complete these works for the Bribie Island and surrounding communities ahead of schedule," Minister Mickelberg said.
"By separating traffic with a centre median, adding lanes and improving key intersections, this project reduces congestion on this busy corridor.
"These upgrades will improve safety and keep the local community, tourists and freight operators commuting to and from Bribie Island moving for a better lifestyle and a stronger economy."
Senator for Queensland Corinne Mulholland said she was excited to see how the critical safety upgrade would improve the lifestyle of locals and tourism in the region.
"As a Moreton Bay resident I well know the historical issues along this stretch of road and, let me tell you, so does the suspension on my car!" Senator Mulholland said.
"This is a critical investment in the local lifestyle and also safety. It means better flood resilience when the weather turns, safer trips for families, and a more reliable connection to essential services like Caboolture Hospital.
"Caboolture-Bribie Island Road isn't just a stretch of bitumen, it's the front door to Bribie Island. So Improving this connection is like rolling out the red carpet for 4WD enthusiasts and weekend adventurers as well as making everyday life easier for locals to come home.
"I hope more people around SEQ start setting their GPS for Bribie Island on the weekends, to discover this incredible destination, as we continue improving the safety and quality of this critical stretch of local road."
Queensland Member for Pumicestone Ariana Doolan said the upgrade was making an immediate difference for local families and businesses.
"This is a vital local route, and these works mean safer school runs, smoother commutes and more reliable travel to and from Bribie Island," Ms Doolan said.
"Delivering this much needed project ahead of schedule show shows the Crisafulli Government is committed to giving Queensland a fresh start by building the infrastructure our growing community needs now and into the future.
"I thank the local Bribie community for their cooperation while works were completed."
