Cairns police warn community after three women sexually assaulted in Manoora

Cairns police are alerting the local community and appealing for witnesses after three women were sexually assaulted during a 30-minute period last night (Thursday, April 30).

All three women, aged 23, 31 and 37 were walking along Springfield Crescent separately between 7 and 7.30pm, when they were approached by a man.

The women, who were not known to each other, were exercising by themselves, when the man has approached each individually, made sexually suggestive comments before grabbing the women around the buttock area.

Each of the women screamed or yelled at the man which caused him to flee on foot.

Police were advised and multiple units responded including the dog squad with a thorough search of the area unable to locate the man.

He is described as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance, approximately 175cms with a slim build.

The man was not wearing a shirt however it's believed he was either carrying a white t-shirt or towel. That t-shirt or towel may have been tucked into his dark coloured shorts.

Detective Acting Inspector Jason Smith today spoke with local media to warn the community and urge anyone with information to come forward.

"There are three separate complaints with all occurred within a very short time of each other between 7pm and 7.30pm last night.

"I'm very concerned by this man's motivated behaviour- the brazen attacks in a reasonably busy street and all within 30 minutes, is troubling.

"I want the community to be aware of what happened and to know that this man has yet to be caught.

"I'm urging everyone to be extra vigilant of their surroundings and to immediately contact police if they notice anyone suspicious, or out of place, or someone's actions or behaviours are making them feel unsafe.

Police will be conducting additional patrols in the area.

Police are also appealing for anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV vision in the Springfield Crescent area and the area 500 meters around Springfield Crescent, to contact local police.
