Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses to an incident on Christmas morning that has left two young men in hospital.

After the vehicle failed to stop, police engaged in a short pursuit on Elrundie Avenue, where it reached speeds up to 110km/h in the 80km zone.

“The vehicle crashed around 4:15am near the Elrundie/University roundabout, injuring the 16-year-old male driver and the 15-year-old male passenger,” Superintendent Tony Deutrom said.

The youths were transported to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“This matter is being treated as a serious custody incident and police are calling for witnesses to the pursuit, the crash, or who may have information about the lead-up to the incident to assist in investigations.”

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers.
