Interested speakers have until 31 January 2022 to submit abstracts for a presentation at the fourth International Conference on Nuclear Knowledge Management and Human Resources Development: Challenges and Opportunities, to be held in Moscow, Russia, from 13-16 June 2022. The conference is planned to be held in-person, with the possibility to attend virtually.
Nuclear power can make a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving energy security and sustainable development. To ensure safe, secure and sustainable operations of nuclear facilities, continuous training and effective management of staff is vital. This includes improving the performance of the current workforce, retaining specialized knowledge and training the next generation of professionals.
"Future low carbon electricity generation will depend on a competent national and international workforce to meet the technological demands," said David Drury, Head of the Knowledge Management Section at the IAEA. "The conference will provide an opportunity to share experiences on education, training and knowledge management activities to support the nuclear sector. We will also discuss lessons learnt from the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of challenges associated with human resource development."
The conference will discuss specific challenges related to the need for specialized skills to manage complex processes and technologies. It will provide participants with practical solutions for developing and maintaining the human resources needed to support safe, secure and sustainable nuclear power programmes.
Topics to be covered during the conference's four main technical sessions will include:
- Nuclear knowledge management towards Net Zero, including managing non-electric applications of nuclear energy
- Learning and development for human resources in the post-COVID era, diversity and attraction of young professionals
- Digital transformation to support human resource development and nuclear knowledge management
- Nuclear information management
The conference will include panel discussions on the topics of the technical sessions and a closing panel with high level technical experts that will consider technological, regulatory, political, human resources and public information issues.
Those wishing to present at the conference - either orally or in the form of a poster - must submit a 150-200 word abstract through the conference's digital file submission system (IAEA-INDICO) and register online using the InTouch+ platform. The deadline for abstract submissions and online registration is 31 January 2022.
