Caloundra parking amnesty starts tomorrow

Sunshine Coast Council

Starting tomorrow (December 1), Caloundra shoppers will be able to take advantage of free parking in the CBD area over the busy Christmas period.

In partnership with the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce, council will provide an eight-week amnesty running until Sunday, January 27, 2019.

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said with the recent unveiling of the fourth stage of the Bulcock St streetscape upgrade, there was no better time to rediscover the enhanced Downtown Caloundra.

"Bulcock St has a fresh new look with new trees and shrubs, new footpaths, a reshaped roadway, additional street furniture, public art and much more," Cr Dwyer said.

"I encourage people to take advantage of the free parking and check out the new-look main street to start some Christmas shopping.

"Though parking will be free, the two-hour time limit will still apply to support customer turnover for local businesses during the busy holiday period."

The funds raised throughout the year by Caloundra's parking meters is used for projects, facilities and other services in Downtown Caloundra that would not otherwise be possible.

In addition to the paid parking locations that will be free, there are multi-storey car parks on Ormuz Avenue and Cooma Terrace, both of which offer free parking year-round and are less than 100m walk to Bulcock St.
