Caloundra's Yellow Brick Laneway builds on Elton John experience

As Elton John farewells the Sunshine Coast this March, Caloundra says hello to its very own Yellow Brick Laneway.

Grab all your Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters and head to Downtown Caloundra for our Elton-themed party, complete with Elton silent discos and live music, before getting your photo taken on the Sunshine Coast's very own yellow brick road.

We are so excited for the Rocketman's visit to the Sunshine Coast, that to celebrate the auspicious occasion, Caloundra's Lamkin Lane will be painted with yellow brick artwork for all Elton's Tiny Dancers to enjoy.

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said he was looking forward to taking a stroll down the golden-adorned street.

"Come view the new yellow laneway and join in the fun at an Elton John-themed party on Saturday, 29 February 2020 from 5-9pm," Cr Dwyer said.

"Meet us at Paisley Park Project in Lamkin Lane, Caloundra where the party will include two silent discos of Elton songs, live music, and food and drinks will also be available for purchase.

"The laneway will look fantastic and provide a fun point of difference for the Caloundra CBD for people to get photos of and enjoy this new public art.

"But, most importantly, this eye-catching bright art will improve pedestrian safety between the car park and Lamkin Lane, by alerting drivers that the area has increased pedestrian usage," Cr Dwyer said.

The yellow bricks in Lamkin Lane will be immediately west of the Village Lane crossover and directly outside the Ormuz car park pedestrian exit.

Art Hub Sunshine Coast and Downtown Caloundra Taskforce member Natasha Holloway is also excited for the fun and colourful flair the project will bring to the laneway.

"At the Caloundra Taskforce, we are very excited about the Yellow Brick Laneway project and all the other activations that have been, and will be, happening in Caloundra. It is wonderful to have such a great collaborative relationship between the Council's Creative Team, local businesses and the taskforce who fully support the Caloundra Arts Plan," she said.

Local businesses are hosting the Yellow Brick Sale 24-29 February. Look out for the large yellow stickers on the footpath, which highlight the best deals in town. Pop in-store to ask more about what each outlet has on offer. Then enjoy Elton's favourite dish of risotto after hitting the shops before donning your favourite dancing shoes (Gucci of course) and boogying the afternoon away at one of the Elton-themed silent discos.

The installation provides a quirky visual element providing a creative activation space in the form of a bespoke 'stage' for performers and community.

"The activation will support increasing community and visitor participation, while bringing increased use of the area and awareness to surrounding businesses within Caloundra. It's a great honour to activate for Elton John's Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour," Cr Dwyer said.
