One of Wodonga Council's asset inspection contractors, Infrastructure Management Group, is taking a tech savvy and four-wheeled approach to undertaking a cyclic four-yearly condition assessment of the city's entire footpath and cycle path network.
From today, you may notice quad bikes fitted with cameras and lasers driving the paths at a brisk walking pace.
These activities are part of Council's asset management responsibilities for City of Wodonga's 481km network of footpaths and shared cycle paths.
Wodonga Council's Assets Management Officer, Dean Shawcross said the data collected from the survey would enable more effective maintenance and renewal strategies to improve connectivity, mobility and safety of our footpath and shared cycle path networks.
Over the next two weeks, 481kms of footpaths and shared paths will be checked for defects and condition rated using detailed video imaging captured by contractors on quad bikes. The survey includes roadside footpaths within road reserves, cycle paths, paths through parks, Council reserves, recreation facilities and the High Country Rail Trail.
The quad bikes are clearly identified and will travel at a brisk walking pace, with operators mindful of the needs of pedestrians.
Hazard lighting and other warning devices will be in operation while completing the assessment and video recording activities of footpaths, cycle ways and shared paths.
No people or private property will be recorded during the survey.
