Campbellfield waste consolidation facility - Have your say

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is calling for public comment on a proposed Prescribed Industrial Waste (PIW) Management facility in Campbellfield.

Greencare Environmental Solutions Pty Ltd has applied for an EPA Works Approval for the consolidation plant at 59 Merri Concourse, Campbellfield.

The main activity proposed for the site is small-scale consolidation of specialised, low volume prescribed industrial waste, within the warehouse building. The waste would be collected from industrial and educational facilities, stored and consolidated, before being sent off-site to another EPA licensed facility for reuse.

Should the application be successful, the Works Approval is likely to include strict EPA requirements for the volume of waste held on site, containment measures, controls on the processes and types of containers used, the disposal of any waste, and an Environmental Management Plan including methods of securing any dangerous or flammable materials.

You can find the application documents and have the opportunity to lodge a submission on the Engage Victoria website, here: engage.vic.gov.au/epa-works-approvals/greencare

EPA encourages members of the public to ask any questions about the Works Approval process or Greencare Environmental Solutions Pty Ltd's proposal via the link on the Engage Vic website.

Submissions on this Works Approval application are open until 17 June 2020, and EPA expects to announce its decision in September.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

EPA issues Works Approvals under the Environment Protection Act 1970. They are required for any industrial and waste management activities that have the potential for significant environmental impact.

Where a Works Approval is granted, it includes specific environmental conditions the company must meet for the project to go ahead.
