Atlantic Canada has the ingredients to become an economic powerhouse and a magnet for investment in the next decade. There are powerful signs of economic growth in the region. As global trade pressures persist, Canada's new government is helping Canadian workers and businesses respond to unjustified U.S. tariffs, strengthen their operations and compete for new opportunities at home and around the world.
Today, Serge Cormier, Member of Parliament for Acadie-Bathurst, announced a federal investment of $3.5 million in federal support for MQM Quality Manufacturing Inc. The investment will help the company modernize and expand its operations, lower costs, improve efficiency, and strengthen its ability to compete as it responds to tariff pressures.
The federal investment is provided through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) and the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program to support two modernization projects:
- $1 million through RTRI for the purchase of new robotic manufacturing equipment that will lower operating costs and improve productivity and efficiency, helping MQM mitigate the impact of tariffs.
- $2.5 million through REGI for a major expansion of its facility to improve material flow and workflow, increase manufacturing efficiency and position the company for future growth.
The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
