May 20th, 2022 – Pickle Lake, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario – FedNor
Ensuring that all Canadians benefit from and experience the successes of our country is central to the strength of our nation. That is why we are dedicated to supporting rural municipalities in building their local economies. Through Regional Development Agencies like FedNor, the federal government is investing in communities to help small and medium-sized enterprises grow and create meaningful jobs for Canadians.
The Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced a Government of Canada investment of $216,548 to help create and maximize community economic development opportunities in Pickle Lake.
Provided through FedNor’s Community Investment Initiative for Northern Ontario (CIINO), the funding will enable Pickle Lake to retain an Economic Development Officer (EDO) on staff for an additional three-year period, and will maintain or create a minimum of 15 jobs. Building on the success the position has achieved to date, the EDO will undertake a variety of priority projects that will strengthen the economy, position the community for sustainable growth and prosperity, and build upon the local employment market. This includes the construction of a multi-purpose training and innovation centre, enhancing and developing recreation sites and facilities, downtown revitalization, and highway and airport commercial property development.
This announcement demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to families and their communities across the country. Initiatives like this will ensure that every part of Canada enjoys the same successes and quality of life, that rural and northern communities are able to participate in and help build Canada’s economic.
