The Law Commission of Canada has released its latest What We Heard report, covering the period of January to June 2026. This is the sixth What We Heard report published by the LCC since it resumed operations in June 2023.
Published on a biannual basis, What We Heard reports present the key takeaways that emerge from the Law Commission's engagement efforts and set out the preoccupations, projects, and possibilities shared by partners and interlocutors. Drawing on exchanges with scholars, jurists, policy makers, community organizations, law reform agencies, and Indigenous leaders and experts, the reports offer a snapshot of the law and justice landscape in Canada as articulated by the range of actors with whom the LCC engages.
The newest What We Heard report highlights, among others, the importance of institutional responsiveness in promoting public trust and accountability, the complexity of power dynamics within the justice system, the risks and opportunities that flow from technological developments, the ongoing and unresolved work associated with reconciliation, the need for contextual and people-centered justice, the promise and potential of university legal clinics and law students, the possibilities associated with participatory reform, and the significance of intergenerational exchange.
