The Government of Canada is making strategic investments in tourism to strengthen local economies, support communities, and showcase their unique attractions to visitors from around the world.
That is why Marcus Powlowski, Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay-Rainy River, today announced a total FedNor investment of $206,733 in two tourism industry projects in the Rainy River region. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for FedNor.
As part of the funding, the Atikokan Economic Development Corporation is receiving $171,108 to support their Travel to the North of Ontario - Visit Atikokan project, which will see the development and launch of an integrated booking system for tourism outfitters. The booking system will link the operational activities of hotels, lodges, and other tourism providers with AI-enabled online solutions in order to attract new visitors, enhance client experience, and grow the tourism industry..
The Town of Fort Frances will also receive $35,625 to enable marina infrastructure upgrades in the community. This revitalization of the Sorting Gap Marina will support small business development, while also strengthening outdoor tourism offerings and expanding programming to enhance overall visitor experiences. This project will help meet the needs of local businesses and tourists, and will help transform the site into a community hub.
These two projects will not only help enhance economic development in the Rainy River district area by helping to drive growth in the tourism sector, but will also revitalize local infrastructure that helps make our communities stronger.
