Canada Supports National Transport Firm & Workers

Department of Finance Canada

Disruptive trade patterns are reshaping Canada's transportation and logistics sector by altering freight volumes, re-routing supply chains, and increasing operational complexity. These changes are raising costs, reducing efficiency, and forcing logistics providers to adapt quickly to fluctuating demand and evolving cross‑border trade conditions.

Today, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue, highlighted up to $90 million in loan assistance to transportation and logistics company C.A.T. North America Inc. (C.A.T.) through the Large Enterprise Tariff Loan facility. This financial assistance will help one of Canada's major transportation and logistics employers maintain operations, protect Canadian jobs, and preserve critical transportation capacity, ensuring continued reliability in supply chains.

Headquartered in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, C.A.T. specializes in long-haul trucking, intermodal services, warehousing, distribution, and cross-border freight management services. It currently employs 1,670 workers in Canada and has a fleet of over 1,500 power units and 5,000 trailers, serving customers in manufacturing, industrial, and retail sectors.

Transportation and logistics companies play a critical role in Canada's economy by enabling the efficient movement of goods across provinces and international borders. Companies like C.A.T. support trade, ensure supply chain reliability, and help businesses remain competitive in both domestic and global markets.
