Cancer Council Victoria extends support services to address increase

Cancer Council Victoria

Cancer Council Victoria has made the decision to extend our 13 11 20 telephone service to support the oncology sector with the influx of queries from cancer patients, and their loved ones, concerned about COVID-19.

Head of Strategy and Support at Cancer Council Victoria, Danielle Spence, said there had been an increased number of distressed calls to the 13 11 20 support service from people with cancer worried about their risk of COVID-19.

"We are hoping by extending our 13 11 20 hours until 2pm on Sunday we can help provide some triage advice for people who may need to seek assistance and for those who will benefit from reassurance and general information around risk reduction."

The Cancer Council's 13 11 20 is a free, confidential telephone information and support service run by Cancer Councils in each state and territory. Anyone can call Cancer Council 13 11 20 - cancer patients, people living with cancer, their families, carers and friends, teachers, students and healthcare professionals.
