Orange City Council will host a candlelight vigil on Sunday 21 December to honour the victims of the Bondi Beach terror attack and to stand in solidarity with those affected across Australia.
The vigil will be held at the Orange Function Centre, with doors opening at 6.00pm and the formal program commencing at 6.20pm.
Orange Mayor Tony Mileto said the vigil offers a space for the Orange community to come together in reflection, support and unity.
"This was a deeply distressing act of violence that has shaken our nation, particularly our Jewish community," Cr Mileto said.
"We stand alongside all Australians in condemning the Bondi Beach attack as an act of terrorism and an attack on the Australian way of life. Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, the survivors, and the first responders who showed extraordinary bravery."
A minute of silence will be observed at 6.47pm, marking one week since the attack, in line with the NSW Government's call for a day of reflection.
The Federal and NSW Governments have declared Sunday 21 December a Day of Reflection to honour the victims of the horrific terrorist attack at Bondi Beach and to stand in solidarity with the Jewish community.
The Day of Reflection will be observed on the final full day of Chanukah, a time traditionally associated with light, faith and resilience, making the loss felt by the Jewish community even more profound.
Cr Mileto said the vigil will focus on remembrance, unity and care for one another.
"It is critical that we come together during this traumatic time - to support one another, to reject hate and violence, and to reaffirm that Orange is a welcoming and connected community," he said.
"Every person deserves to feel safe, respected and valued."
All members of the community are welcome to attend. Seating will be available for elderly attendees, candles will be provided, and a condolence book will be available for those who wish to leave a message of support.
