Car into powerlines at Flinders Park, South Australia

A warning to motorists to be on the lookout for emergency services personnel on the roads after a man drove into powerlines at Flinders Park overnight.

Police and SES were at Findon Road, Flinders Park overnight after a tree brought down a light pole and powerlines across the road yesterday afternoon.

Two lanes for northbound traffic were closed, with flashing lights and traffic cones blocking off the hazard.

About 4am on Sunday 13 November, a driver drove through the SES tape and collided with the fallen tree, pole and powerlines.

Police yelled to the driver to stay in the car due to the danger posed by the live powerlines caught on the vehicle.

SA Power Networks were called to the scene to render the powerlines safe. MFS and paramedics were also requested to be on standby. Fortunately, the man was safely extracted from the vehicle and did not sustain injury.

The 54-year-old Seaton man will be issued with an expiation notice.

Police urge drivers to take care on the roads, particularly during weather events and power outages and to keep an eye out for emergency services personnel who are often working on the road during these conditions.
