Tweed Shire Council has opened 6 new paid cadet, apprentice and trainee positions for people looking to start a new career while completing a fully-funded qualification.
Successful applicants can start (or continue working towards) a qualification while being paid to learn on the job with experienced professionals at Council.
Council is offering roles across town planning, environmental planning, electrical instrumentation, water and parks and garden to help people from all backgrounds, education levels and abilities to kickstart a rewarding career.
The new positions follow on from a recruitment round earlier in the year, funded by the NSW Government's Fresh Start program, where Council successfully recruited 9 cadets, apprentices and trainees.
Abby, who joined Council as a Social Media and Digital Content Creator trainee at the start of the year, said the role came at just the right time.
"If you need a change and don't have the training to make the jump on your own, this could be perfect for you," she said.
The initiative is about creating real, long-term career pathways while supporting the Tweed's future workforce needs. The positions give people the chance to earn, learn and grow with the support of experienced teams behind them, and are designed to build local skills and help our community thrive—now and into the future.
One of Council's building surveyor cadets, recruited in the first round earlier in the year, said the experience of being paid to learn on the job had been invaluable.
"The study and the work role complement each other, and it helps to be surrounded by professionals in my field of study when I have questions.
"It's an amazing opportunity—if you get the chance, do it," he said.
Council encourages applications from all walks of life, whether you're starting out, changing direction or returning to the workforce.
