At a Meeting of Council last night (29/3) Central Goldfields Shire Council awarded the tender for Stage Four, the final stage, of the Carisbrook Levee project.

Local company Doran Earthmoving were awarded the $1,082,870.80 contract following a public tender process.

The final stage of project involves the construction of the Western Levee – south of Pyrenees Highway - which includes a 1,500-metre earthen levee bank, open drainage and associated works.

The Carisbrook Levee project was designed by specialists Entura in response to major floods which occurred in 2010 and 2011.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Chris Meddows-Taylor said it was wonderful to see the project move to the final stage.

"We know it's the next, critical step in managing flood mitigation in Carisbrook, and so to have the contract awarded and works about to begin – is a one of the biggest milestones for the project to date.

"Council officers will now work with the contractor to develop a project timeline for Stage Four and we are hopeful that completion will be by November, 2022.

"We thank the Federal and State Government for their continued support in delivering this critical project and acknowledge that is has been a long process for our community of Carisbrook."

Council received $1.2 million for Stage Four (the final stage) of the Carisbrook Levee project, after a joint agreement between the Federal and State Government was finalised earlier in the year.

Council will also contribute $600,000 to the project.
