A casual school teacher has been charged over the alleged sexual touching of a student in Sydney's south-west last year.
On Thursday 24 September 2020, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a female student had been sexually touched by a casual teacher at a school in Sydney's south-west.
Following extensive inquiries, a 57-year-old man was arrested at a home in Sydney's Inner West about 10am on Friday 30 April 2021.
He was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with sexual touching child aged between 10 and 16, and common assault.
Police will allege in court that an 11-year-old girl was sexually touched by a casual teacher in September last year.
The man appeared at Newtown Local Court the same day, where he was formally refused bail to re-appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Thursday 20 May 2021).
The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
