Caught in Collingwood

A man has been arrested following a series of alleged burglaries and attempted burglaries in Melbourne's inner north overnight.

It is alleged the 49-year-old jumped a fence into the back yard of a property on Wellington Street Collingwood and attempted force open a door just before 2.10am.

A female occupant confronted the man through the door and he fled over the fence.

A short time later it's alleged he gained entry to a business on Budd Street where he activated an alarm.

He then gained entry to another property on Wellington Street by removing glass window louvers.

A male occupant confronted the man and he fled before being arrested by police on Alexandra Parade.

Police also located an amount of jewellery on the man.

He has been charged with aggravated burglary, attempted aggravated burglary, burglary, handle stolen goods and bail offences and will face Melbourne Magistrates' Court this morning.
