CDC NSW Unveils Rouse Hill Bus Depot

CDC NSW

CDC NSW, a subsidiary of ComfortDelGro Corporation Australia, is transforming Northwest Sydney's transportation landscape with the grand opening of the $55 million Rouse Hill Bus Depot that is futureproofed to host a fleet of 200 electric buses.

The modern, purpose built 4.1 hectare facility will employ up to 300 staff, including drivers, mechanics, yard personnel, and administrative team members, creating significant employment opportunities for the local community.

In alignment with the NSW Government's Zero Emission Bus Transition Plan, the depot includes complete underground infrastructure ready for electric bus implementation to cater for a fleet of 200 buses. This forward-thinking design allows for seamless expansion into electric vehicle operations as the transition progresses.

CDC NSW Chief Executive Officer, David Mead said "we couldn't be prouder to officially open our new Rouse Hill Depot that has been 7 years in the making. Our new depot prioritises staff facilities including large modern meal areas, expansive rest areas with comfortable lounge spaces, entertainment options including TVs and a billiards room, a prayer room and dedicated quiet zones for breaks between shifts.

These amenities reflect our commitment to supporting our staff who keep our services running every day."

"This landmark infrastructure investment will serve as an important hub that will power public transport throughout Sydney's rapidly growing Northwest corridor, ensuring residents and visitors enjoy improved mobility and connectivity for years to come."

New South Wales Minister for Transport, The Hon John Graham MLC said "Bus services are critical to connecting and supporting our local communities. I'd like to thank CDC for their 20 years of service to communities across NSW.

"I'm pleased to see this Rouse Hill facility is equipped and ready to roll for the next phase of the zero emissions bus roll out. This facility is exactly what the bus taskforce was talking about when it recommended a stronger focus on depot infrastructure."

ComfortDelGro Corporation Australia Chairman Russell Balding said, "This new depot represents more than just an infrastructure investment in our growing national portfolio, it is our commitment to building mobility for a better future and demonstrates how private-public partnerships can deliver world-class transport facilities that benefit communities while supporting the state's transition to more sustainable transport solutions."

A key feature of the new depot is its comprehensive 12-bay workshop facility, which has received full RMS (HVIS) approval. Along with dedicated bus wash and refueling areas, these facilities will significantly improve maintenance capabilities and ensure the highest safety standards for all passengers.

The state-of-the-art depot can accommodate up to 213 buses. The facility also includes 250 car parking spaces for staff and visitors.

Emphasising commitment to sustainability, the depot features:

  • Two on-site detention tanks for stormwater collection and treatment
  • A 140,000-litre capacity system for harvesting and reusing roof-collected stormwater in bus washing operations
  • Recycled water systems for landscaping and plumbing
  • Energy-efficient design meeting Section J of the building code, including strategic positioning for natural lighting
  • LED lighting throughout, controlled by PET cells for exterior areas and motion sensors for interior spaces
  • A backup generator to maintain critical operations during power outages

The facility also showcases comprehensive security measures, including full CCTV coverage for both security and vehicle dispatching, along with controlled access systems for staff and visitors.

This strategic expansion is a clear demonstration of ComfortDelGro Australia's commitment to growing its high-quality public transport portfolio, building on their significant presence in NSW, as well as other states in Australia.
