The festive season is here, and now is the time to ask yourself: Do you have a Plan B to get home safely?
The Orange and Cabonne Road Safety Program is reminding everyone to leave the car at home when heading to Christmas parties and end-of-year celebrations.
Council's annual Taxi Voucher Campaign is underway, giving workplaces the chance to win free $10 taxi vouchers simply by registering their staff Christmas party. Weekly draws will continue throughout the season.
The campaign aims to reduce drink driving by encouraging drivers to make a taxi their Plan B.
Orange Mayor Tony Mileto urged the community to plan ahead.
"We all want to enjoy the festive season and celebrate with colleagues, friends and family. The simplest way to do that safely is to leave the car at home and make a taxi your Plan B. Drink driving has devastating consequences, especially at this time of year. It's preventable; ditch the keys and look out for your mates," Cr Mileto said.
Orange and Cabonne Road Safety Officer Andrea Hamilton Vaughan said reinforcing the message in workplaces was critical.
"Between 2019 and 2024, 26 drivers with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.05 were injured in casualty crashes in Orange, 18 were male and 8 female. During the same period, a further 364 drivers with a legal amount of alcohol in their system crashed and were injured. Every drink affects your ability to drive, slowing reactions, impairing judgment, and increasing risk-taking. The safest choice is not to drive.
