A City of Salisbury road upgrade featuring a world-leading sustainable asphalt product made entirely from recycled water bottles is underway at Paralowie.
About 200,000 water bottles are being used as part of the trial at Countess Drive, McQueen Court and Gerrard Avenue, having been transformed into a specialised asphalt reinforcement product, named HaTelit C Eco, by manufacturing company HUESKER.
The result is a more durable, sustainable and low-maintenance road surface which costs less and is better for the environment.
Mayor Gillian Aldridge OAM said City of Salisbury was passionate about increasing sustainability and reducing its environmental footprint.
"Every organisation has the responsibility to explore environmentally sound practices, and we pride ourselves on leading the way in environmental sustainability with a number of green roads trials underway to complement existing initiatives such as our recycled stormwater program," Mayor Aldridge said.
"By using old water bottles as the raw material for new road surfaces we can reduce carbon emissions and support a circular economy."
The trial is one of seven concurrent green asphalt upgrades taking place in the Council area.
