Cemeteries will be guided by an important document that sets the direction for future development and improvements of the Kempsey Shire's cemeteries over the next 30 years.

Following its recent public exhibition, Council adopted the Kempsey Cemeteries Strategy and Master Plan on Tuesday at the June Council Meeting. The strategy aims to provide appropriate, accessible and affordable cemetery services and ensures these services meet future demand.

Council operates 11 cemeteries throughout the shire. With increased regulation and legislative requirements, greater competition and changing burial preferences the Cemetery Strategy will guide:

  • the cost-effective development of physical cemetery infrastructure that meets the needs of the community in a variety of ways
  • the delivery of the associated services to enable the community and the broader industry to interact with the cemetery facilities readily.
