The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), with assistance from the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), is undertaking a hazard reduction burn in Jilliby State Conservation Area (SCA) starting today, Tuesday 28 April 2026.
The 324-hectare burn is the second stage of a larger planned burn which will reduce fuel such as leaves and undergrowth to help protect the communities of Dooralong and Ravensdale from risk of bushfire.
The burn will start approximately 10am on Tuesday 28 April and will continue through to Friday 1 May.
A firefighting helicopter and smoke may be visible from the M1 Pacific Motorway, Dooralong, Ravensdale, Yarramalong and Wyong.
Traffic will be controlled on Watagan Forest Road to support the hazard reduction burn and motorists are advised to follow signs and drive to conditions.
All trails and tracks in the park will be closed during the burn including:
- Watagan Forest Road
- Woodards Point Road
- Daniels Point Road
- Whitemans Ridge Road
- Whitemans Lane
- Maculata Road
- Little Jilliby Road
- Grey Gum Road
- Stintsons Point Road
- Stintsons Lane
- Siding Road
- Pitts Point Road
- informal trails that intersect with these areas.
For their safety, the public should not enter closed areas while the operation is underway. Roads and trails will be reopened once the areas are assessed as safe. Visitors must check NPWS Alerts for up-to-date information on closures.
If you are vulnerable to smoke, try to stay indoors, keeping doors and windows closed to reduce your exposure.
Across the state, all hazard reduction burns are coordinated with the RFS to ensure the impact on the community is assessed at a regional level.
