Central Geelong laneways

City of Greater Geelong Acting Director Economy, Investment & Attraction Brett Ince

We're working with our project partners to deliver this laneways expansion as fast as possible because it will improve the connectivity and liveability of our city, connecting people to local businesses, ultimately resulting in jobs and investment into the future.

Consultation with the community and businesses in the area has been ongoing and as locals would expect, we're taking the time to get the planning right so it isn't rushed and leaves a lasting positive legacy for Geelong.

We're already looking at all options to support local business be able to have more customers seated outside and welcome this week's announcement from the Victorian Government about an Outdoor Eating and Entertainment Package. In particular, more outdoor seating, that can be implemented safely and quickly to help get our wonderful restaurant and café's open again

How central Geelong looks and feels will no doubt be different as we move to a COVID-normal setting, but we're confident that by working together we will be able to once again have a thriving and vibrant city that supports greater liveability and prosperity.
