Central Geelong parking options to be explored

The City will examine the potential impacts of introducing free two hour on-street parking for 12-months in the future in Central Geelong.

Council has requested a report following a Notice of Motion from Councillor Eddy Kontelj, as it considers further options to support the recovery of the community and businesses from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The CEO will provide a report to Council on the potential initiative in February 2021.

The Council has funded parking initiatives as part of $16.9 million worth of COVID-19 support measures this year, including free casual on and off-street parking in Central Geelong until 31 December 2020.

With the paid parking system to return in January, the City also will resume its 30-minute free parking trial in 2P spaces until 30 June 2021.

Drivers in a 2P zone will still need to enter their registration details and length of stay into parking meters, with the system to automatically reduce the charge by 30 minutes for one transaction per vehicle per day.
