Central West Libraries' digital collection available on Libby app

Central West Libraries members can now browse, borrow and enjoy ebooks and digital audiobooks through the award-winning Libby app.

Members have been accessing digital books through the RBdigital app, however, it was recently acquired by OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for libraries and schools worldwide and creator of the Libby app.

Readers will still be able to access the same material as well as many more great titles.

Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said the new platform allowed Central West Libraries to pool its resources with other participating libraries in the Central West Zone Consortia.

"Central West Libraries can now provide a wider range of online titles including bestsellers and new releases, available in a downloadable format," Cr Kidd said.

"There is virtually something for everyone, of any age, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

24/7 ACCESS: Central West Libraries trainees Claire Quinn and Andreas Kuegler look forward to downloading a wide range of ebooks, magazines and audiobooks on the Libby app.

Readers accessing RBdigital will receive a message reminding them that audiobooks, magazines and ebooks have moved over to the Libby app and access to RBdigital will end on or before April 30, 2021.

Central West Libraries Technical Services Librarian, Ros Dorsman, is excited about the change.

"Everyone with a valid Central West Libraries Card can download the Libby App and borrow ebooks, audiobooks and magazines from our extensive collections. It is that simple," she said.

"If you already have items checked out in the RBdigital App, they will be available through the remainder of the lending period. Readers can finish the title without disruption, but they need to transition to the Libby app to borrow something new."

Named one of Popular Mechanics' 20 Best Apps of the Decade, Libby seamlessly connects readers with Central West Libraries' digital collection.

To get started enjoying ebooks, audiobooks and more, download the Libby App from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Sign in with a valid library card and password, browse and borrow instantly.

The service is compatible with all major computers, smartphones and tablets. All titles will automatically expire at the end of the 21-day lending period and there are no late fees.

None of the other services that your library provides are affected by this change.

Library staff have prepared a fact sheet to help with the transition to the Libby app. Click here to see the fact sheet or visit the Central West Libraries website.

If members have any concerns logging on to the new app they can contact library staff on 6393-8132.
