Labor has abandoned workers and community values.
In a very poor week for a party that claims to support Tasmanian workers, Labor confirmed they will oppose guaranteed jail time for sex offenders and people who seriously assault our nurses, police, correctional officers and ambulance staff.
They have also joined with the Greens to put protestors ahead of law abiding workers, making completely false claims and spreading fear about our Workplaces Amendment Bill.
I call on Rebecca White to show some leadership, listen to the community and give Tasmanians what they are calling for - protection for workers and mandatory jail for child sex offenders and people who attack and seriously assault our frontline staff.
The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to protecting Tasmanians, demonstrated by our strong legislative record including nation leading reforms in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Child Sexual Abuse.
We are committed to protecting all Tasmanians' right to work without being prevented from doing so - that's what our Workplaces Amendment Bill is really about.
Tasmanians continue to be disappointed by the Labor party, which is bereft of ideas and has no regard for community values and expectations.
Labor's stance shows that claims made at their State Conference of breaking away from the Greens and supporting workers were just hollow words.
Our important reforms to protect Tasmanians are overwhelmingly endorsed by Tasmanians and are clearly in line with community expectations to keep our community safe.
